Chesed Farms would like to introduce you to Neil Brent of Columbia Mushroom Company.
Our relationship with Brent began years back when Chesed Farms was just coming to be. In fact, when Chesed Farms owners, Sundown Hazen and Jonathan Garrett began creating Chesed Farms they visited Brent at Columbia Mushroom Company. He has been a resource of advice and a great community and relationship builder in the growth of Chesed Farms.
Brent has built his business around focusing on community, which we love, and has been a wonderful ally to Chesed Farms from the beginning.
From a shared passion for relationships and community Chesed Farms knew that Columbia Mushroom Company would be great to collaborate with for our new initiative: Choice Mushrooms ~ of the Cascades.
We are so excited to be featuring Columbia Mushroom Company’s Shitake and Maitake mushrooms, when inventory is available, in the Choice Mushrooms ~ of the Cascades Chef Mix.
Columbia Mushroom Company started out small, in a greenhouse in the corner of Brent’s living room. From their small beginning in 2016, the company has been able to grow and the farm is now located on 2.5 acres in Hood River. The property has an interesting history of being a goat farm and has a barn that was built with the wood used in the concrete pouring of Bonneville Dam, not to mention Columbia Mushroom Company is home to the last structure that was standing in Bonneville before the area was flooded.
This unique property, is home to Columbia Mushroom Company and to Brent’s goats and Kune Kune pigs. As farming requires, Brent has seen success and failure through his mushroom trials but continues to prevail. He is ever learning, adjusting and improving his operation.
As an active community member, Brent recognizes the importance of relationships with his neighbors, with his customers and the community as a whole. Brent values the community he lives in and appreciates the support he has been offered as he grew and continues to grow.
Chesed Farms is excited to share Columbia Mushroom Company’s delicious mushrooms and expand Brent’s community of support to include our Valley.
